HOPE
IS MAYBE is an art project on the diversity of hope. Hope is hardly
to be defined. What do we HOPE for? Does HOPE depend on the country
of origin? Our language? Our education? Our faith? Our personal
emotions? HOPE IS MAYBE. Michael Härteis at Kunst verorten has
initiated this art project in collaboration with Jesuit Refugee
Service in Munich. Based on interviews with asylum seekers, Michael
Härteis has collected prominent statements that center around these
questions. In a second step, artists were asked to choose a citation
from a list, reflect on it, and create or
share
an artwork. An international jury selected 75 works of art
to become part of the exhibition here at the airport of Munich. HOPE
IS MAYBE will be growing and changing with each new artwork and
further interviews, demonstrating its fluency of interpretations. “We
would like to encourage people to reflect on hope, their personal and
on those of others, like refugees and asylum seekers”, states
Brother Dieter Müller SJ, member of the selection jury.
